Cycling South Moravia – Valtice

Me and my husband decided to close this summer  season cycling South Moravia – the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape. This region is on the list of sights protected by UNESCO as Pálava Landscape Protected Area because Pálava is a very good quality wine grown especially in this region. As we already visited Lednice a few times before, this time we choose Valtice – a small picturesque town well known for its wine production (Pálava and other) situated 265 kilometers south-east of Prague and 2,5 hour drive from our home town.

Valtice Palace used to be a seat of Lichtenstein Princes built in the early 18th century, nowadays it it known as the center of wine making in Moravia. And you know what? Except beautiful landscape and neat cycling routes taking you even to Austria, they have a perfect 800 meter long wine cellar under the town where you can taste the local production. Try to wander the narrow corridors with a glass of good wine in your hand and not get lost ;o)

When choosing accommodation be wiser than us and do not choose a hotel facing the main street with windows overlooking a disco club, otherwise you will not close your eyes the whole night and will listen to all clock tower striking in the town like me myself. Next time we travel to Valtice, we would definitely choose a small family hotel in one of the hidden corners or in a nearby village of Úvaly or Hlohovec. Try to search the website for many cycling tips.
